Merrill V. Hoyt, Sr., 70 of Kamiah, ID and formerly of Port Orchard, died December 25, 2011 at Franciscan Hospice in University Place, WA due to asbestos related lung cancer.
He was born in Elma, WA and raised in Port Orchard attending South Kitsap High School.
He worked at PSNS as a Pipefitter in Shop 56 and Nuclear Planner and Estimator in Code 2380 for 32 years, retiring in 1993. He also owned and operated Pair of Dice Hide and Furs in Kamiah, ID.
He was a lifetime member of Kitsap Poggie Club and National Rifle Association as well as various Gold Mining clubs. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid outdoorsman. He also enjoyed gardening and loved his cat "Puddin."
He is survived by his sons Merrill V. Hoyt, Jr. and Danny Hoyt (Karen); daughter Theia L. Hoyt; brothers Maurice Hoyt (Donna), Ray Hoyt (Deanna) and Richard Hoyt (Marti); sister Donna Buckendorf; one grandchild Joseph Hoyt and one great-grandchild Jacquelyn Hoyt.
A memorial gathering will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Parkwood Community Center in Port Orchard. Online memorial and guest book at www.rill.com.
